Services at Christ Church
We have several different Sunday meetings at Christ Church:
8.15 am – Holy Communion
10.45 am – Family Service
4 pm – Evening Service – 2nd, 4th and 5th (where applicable) Sundays of every month.
Our 8.15 am Holy Communion follows the modern Common Worship service pattern and includes two Bible readings and a shorter sermon. All Christians are welcome to receive communion. Except for special Sundays, such as Easter and Christmas, there are no hymns. Normally the service will be complete within the hour.
Our 10.45 am Family Service is attended by most church members and is probably the most accessible to new people.
Music is led by the music group and the choir, with song lyrics projected onto two screens at the front of church.
As well as a Bible reading and a sermon, there is usually a special song and item for children during the first fifteen minutes of the service, before they leave for our XPLORE Sunday club.
Coffee is served following the service, and prayer ministry is available to individuals in the area beside the font.
The format of the 10.45 service follows a monthly cycle. The first Sunday of the month includes Holy Communion, while the second Sunday is our Parade Service, attended by young people from the uniformed organizations and their parents. Baptisms or Thanksgivings usually take place during the service on the third Sunday.
Our 4p.m. Evening Service is a more traditional service with a teaching sermon.
4pm 4th Sunday of the month Choral Evensong – A more contemplative service with a robed choir, organ and congregational responses.
Along with the 8.15 and 10.45 services this service follows a special theme for that Sunday, conveyed in the two Bible readings and the talk.
There are three regular midweek services at Christ Church:
A service of Holy Communion takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at 2.00 pm in the Ministry Centre . A short service, this is particularly suitable for the elderly.
Please join us for Morning Prayer, Monday to Friday, at 9.15 am in church.
We also have a network of LYFE groups. Contact the church office for more information.
